Week 8: May 18 – May 22, 2020 (Final Week for Activity Lessons)
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to make Inferences (decisions or judgments that you make when you have a good set of important evidence to base it on) from what they read. Making inferences is the method of using prior knowledge to guess what will happen next (reading in between the lines using the text). These activity lessons will also enhance the student’s reading abilities/critical thinking skills and make it easy to memorize the text they have read. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, vocabulary, and understanding how to use context clues when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Week 7: May 11 – May 15, 2020
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to use Context Clues (unfamiliar word meaning in the text) to assist them in understanding unfamiliar word meanings in sentences/paragraphs. Students will use chosen words as clues and match words to understand the closes meaning of the underlined word. These activity lessons will also enhance the student’s reading abilities/critical thinking skills and make it easy to memorize the text they have read. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, vocabulary, and understanding how to use context clues when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Week 6: May 4 – May 8, 2020
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to add a word part to the end of a base word to create a new meaning, which is known as a Suffix. Students will use the correct suffix from a word bank to form new meaning to a given word. Students will choose the correct suffix to construct a new word. The new words will be used to create a sentence. Examples: -able = able to; -ment = the act of; -ness = being. These activity lessons will also enhance the student’s reading abilities. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, and vocabulary when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Week 5: Aprl 27 – May 1, 2020
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to add new meanings to a root/base word to change its meaning, which is known as a Prefix. Students will work with common prefixes and their meanings, examples such as: re = again, back; un = not, opposite; dis = not; mis = wrong; pre = before; and under = below. Also, non, dis, and un, which means “not” or “the opposite of”. Students will use words they made to complete sentences. These activity lessons will also enhance the student’s reading abilities. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, and vocabulary when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Week 4: April 20 – April 24, 2020
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to Decode Syllables (makes a sound of spoken or written words) use and work with syllables in its simplest form. Students will hear/listen for the sounds in a word and indicate the number of syllables/multisyllables a word is composed of. The students will break down the word into pieces to make it much easier to recognize and decipher. Students’ (certain grade levels) will begin with the vowel portion of the word, and then sound out the remaining of the word from there. They will also code and divide the words (VC|CV), which will give them a step and reasoning system to decode the words. These activity lessons will also enhance the student’s reading abilities. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, and vocabulary when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Week 3: April 13 - April 17, 2020
Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to use Compound Words (combining two or more smaller words) to form new words. Example: back + pack = backpack; rain + bow = rainbow; basket + ball = basketball, etc. The students will focus on the two words and their meaning as well. The activity lessons will encourage students to identify and write compound words as well as create their own compound words. The students will also work with Contractions (short form of writiing two words together) with the support of an apostrophe. Example: we have = we’ve; they are = they’re, etc. The Activity Lessons also supports the students in creating their own use of contractions. The students will increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, predicting, and vocabulary when reading along with the story listening/reading videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, and the character’s feelings in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.

Objective for the week: Students’ Will: Understand how to construct new words using context clues and determine the meaning of the unknown words and to build their vocabulary using the Word Ladder Activity Video. The students will also increase their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, inferring, and vocabulary when reading along with the Stroy Listening/Reading Videos. The students will also learn how to problem-solve, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and the character’s feelings as well as making a personal connection in the chapter stories. They will also enhance their understanding of the Reading Genres by making connections with the text, its style, content, and form.
